Any kitchen organizing solution begins with uncluttering. Take everything out of the drawer. Sort items into one of 3 piles based on how regularly you use the item. Sorting by your/family usage is easier and helps weed out under utilized or infrequently used kitchen items. For each item place it in one of three piles; regularly used pile; less often used pile or, almost/never used pile. This way you are getting rid of kitchen declutter. The almost never used pile of items is the pile for charity or to throw out. The exception are those items, like a turkey baster for instance, used for annual events like holidays. Try and keep these items to a minimum or better yet store them away with the other same seasonal items. For instance, the nut cracker you pull out every December, keep it with your other items you store for this time of year. For the less often used pile look to dispose of duplicates, worn out, novelty items no longer used. Keep the regularly used items. A general rule of thumb is 25% of the stuff we currently have, we can live without. See if you are living by this rule.
Organizing the lower kitchen cabinets is a more challenging process. Items can be hard to see and hard to reach, and space is typically limited. To maximize this space, consider purchasing a sliding cabinet drawer as it will help you reach items that are difficult to find. Additionally, you can purchase three-tier cabinet shelving and mount it to the inside of the cabinet; this will give you extra storage.
Besides being able to hold our clutter and enabling further disorganization, having messy kitchen drawers can waste time as we scour through them in search of the one thing that we need. By being disorganized, the drawers also hide duplicates and make getting rid of kitchen clutter more difficult; if we cannot lay everything out and see what all we have we are more prone to keeping everything in the drawers and trying not to worry about it - but we can fix this quickly and easily!
After you eliminate the items that you will no longer use, you can begin putting things in order. The first place to start is the kitchen drawers. Using drawer organizers will help you locate what you need quickly and eliminate clutter. Once you have finished with the drawers, move on to the cabinets. Keep similar items such as plates and glasses together. Items you use on regular basis should be on the lower shelves; less frequently used items such as seasonal dinnerware should be on the upper shelves. Buy a spice rack to store your spices and free up more space in your cupboard.
Choosing drawers for your lower cabinets provides far more flexibility meaning kitchen elements can be stored and retrieved easily. Baseline drawers are also better for storing large items such as pots, frying pans and casseroles. Whilst rollout trays provide similar functionality they require additional cabinetry: doors and rollout trays.
