Choosing drawers for your lower cabinets provides far more flexibility meaning kitchen elements can be stored and retrieved easily. Baseline drawers are also better for storing large items such as pots, frying pans and casseroles. Whilst rollout trays provide similar functionality they require additional cabinetry: doors and rollout trays.
Try using drawer organizers to contain what you want in each drawer. These always work well for your silverware but they are great for holding those pens and pencils too. Sort through your spoons, spatulas, tongs etc. and ask yourself if your using them and how often? You may find that you have duplicate items but you only use a select few that are your favorites. Categorize and group together different utensils that you need but don't use every day. Take for example a garlic press, can opener, egg slicer, specialty knives for cheese and vegetables etc. Knowing that you keep these items together will make them easier to find when they are needed.
Sometimes it is just easier to grab an item off the counter and place it in a drawer, but by finding an organizing solution that helps declutter, it will help keep the clutter under control. It's always a good feeling of knowing exactly where items are and a bonus when you or other family members can find them easily.
