Kitchen islands are a tricky item to successfully add to your kitchen design, but well worth considering when you are remodeling your kitchen. You may be surprised at the increase in convenience in meal preparation and added counter space an island will provide. But, it is hard to visualize the space required and the best size for any island addition, so be sure you get all the information you need to make the best decision for your kitchen.
A kitchen center counter may be designed in a curved shape, a square shape, an oval shape, a rectangular shape, or an L-shape. Basically, the design and shape of the island will also depend on what you are using the new kitchen addition for. Say for example, if you plan to use it as a kitchen table, or simply a boundary between the people hanging out and the people preparing the food, you need to consider shapes with softy-contoured edges since these are comfortable to lean on.
If you are really stuck on what to do with your kitchen island, then try a nice vase or basket of flowers. Fresh flowers are more appealing than fake ones, but they will need to be replaced every few days. You could also try a nice house plant on the island as well. This is a very simple and easy way to add some color and style to the otherwise bare countertop.
