We had the contractors start the parade - looking at the layout of the kitchen and the cabinet construction, the overall construction of the house and the kitchen in particular. The bids came in - slowly at first and then in a deluge. The prices were astounding. This was in the early 1980's and the low bid was $12,000, and that was for a new sink, paint and "new cabinet facings" (new doors on the existing cabinets!) Now the house was not inexpensive, but these prices were out of sight! Times were much like today, many people out of work and contracts were few and far between.
After you eliminate the items that you will no longer use, you can begin putting things in order. The first place to start is the kitchen drawers. Using drawer organizers will help you locate what you need quickly and eliminate clutter. Once you have finished with the drawers, move on to the cabinets. Keep similar items such as plates and glasses together. Items you use on regular basis should be on the lower shelves; less frequently used items such as seasonal dinnerware should be on the upper shelves. Buy a spice rack to store your spices and free up more space in your cupboard.
If you want to save yourself some energy, you can look on the internet. Most any online store will offer hundreds of kitchen drawer pulls to choose. You will be able to see a picture, a description, and a price. The only drawback to online buying is that you can not feel the weight of the drawer pulls in your hand. This is an indication of durability.
