Imagine how captivating an aquarium would be for a backsplash. You can have a glass aquarium fitted by a professional for your kitchen backsplash. You can also get custom tiles that are expertly designed in a way that creates an illusion of an underwater aquarium.
There are few things which you need to consider in creating your backsplash designs. You need to find a theme and work from there. A color scheme can be chosen in order to have other elements planned. You need to pick out materials and texture is really important, consistency is the secret to choosing the perfect design.
Over the past five years or so there has been an up swell in styles in these two materials. Colors and styles are now completely customizable. Regardless of the color, size or shape there is a solution for you and your tastes. These materials are very easy to clean making them in demand and very desirable. What is more important is they can be purchased online for store pick-ups or directly at the store. There is a reason why porcelain and ceramic tiles has been the number one seller for backsplashes for decades. Do not think you are saddled with these two choices though. Glass tile is very popular and growing in popularity because it is cheap and very easy to clean. You can find them in mosaic or field sizes. The colors that you can get in glass are beautiful and subtle and make for deep accents in your design scheme.
Cover your entire backsplash in one solid color. This is good when you have a very busy granite countertop. You simply choose one color that you like, this is usually a neutral tone, and then select the type of tile you want. You can jazz up this solid field of tile by popping in another color or colors sporadically. This breaks up the solid field a little. It only takes a couple of odd colored tiles here and there to really change the overall look.
If you are having challenges visualizing, WAIT to pick out the colors of your backsplash. I have so many customers that just can't visualize how everything will look when it's all finished. And, it's no wonder because when you are redoing your whole kitchen, virtually every element is changing. How often do you redo your kitchen? I'm guessing not often. Of course for someone like me who does this all the time, it comes more naturally, but for a regular customer, most of them need some assistance. From a sequencing standpoint, you'll want to get floors, cabinets and countertops done all sequentially. And, while your kitchen is out of commission at this point, once those countertops are installed and sinks/appliances reconnected to water and/or gas lines, your kitchen is operational again. If you need to, you can delay a bit before picking finalizing the backsplash, especially if this makes you feel more comfortable in your decision. I have many customers that opt for this solution. It just gives them piece of mind and more confidence in their choices.
